Thayne Currie
Hello, my name is Thayne Currie. I am a
double major in physics and philosophy here at WSU. I am currently
the SPS [President]. Physics stuff -
My main areas of interest in physics are Big Bang cosmology and stellar
astrophysics. Right now, I am doing NASA-funded research with Dr.
Alexander in the area of stellar astrophysics, computing different tables
of stellar opacities from existing opacity codes and (eventually) helping
to implement and run the brand new, exciting code: Phoenix! |
I will graduate from WSU in May 2002 with a BS in Physics. I then want to do graduate study in astrophysics (Caltech or Arizona would be nice!), eventually getting a doctorate in astronomy or astrophysics. I then want to teach or work for NASA. But who knows: maybe I'll end up being a poor, reclusive philosopher.
Other stuff - My philosophical interests are varied and seemingly contradictory, yet I somehow manage to connect everything together. My outlook is decidedly Neo-Thomistic, and this explains why St. Thomas Aquinas and contemporary philosopher Alasdair MacIntyre are the thinkers I most emulate (attempt to at least). I also somehow enjoy the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche. Although I disagree with him 97% of the time, I still respect his thought as that which shows the ramifications of Descartes' ill-fated philosophical underpinnings. G.W.F. Hegel and Karl Marx also interest me.
Miscellaneous - I am active with the Catholic Student Center here at WSU. I also like Mystery Science Theater 3000. In case you want to ask me questions about WSU Physics, argue, or harass me (in a civil way, I hope), my email is thaynecurrie@hotmail.com.
