This year, the Lake Afton Public Observatory will be one of over 800 participating institutions taking place in Smithsonian magazine's sixth Museum Day celebration. Museum Day is a one-day nationwide event taking place on Saturday, September 25. On that day, participating museums and cultural institutions across the country are offering free admission to Smithsonian magazine readers and Smithsonianmag.com visitors.

By presenting a Museum Day Admission Card at the Observatory on Saturday evening, September 25, you and a guest will get in FREE! The Museum Day Admission Cards can be found in the September issue of Smithsonian magazine as well as online at Smithsonian's Meseum Day website.

During this evening will be observing Jupiter and the Moon. Visitors will get to use our 16" telescope to look at these objects as we discuss amazing facts and discoveries related to these planets.

The following restrictions apply ...

  • Admission Card is good for general admission for the card barer plus one guest.
  • One Admission Card per household.
  • Not for use with any other offer.
  • No rain checks.
  • Our public programs are presented every Friday and Saturday evening throughout the year. The Observatory is open from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. during the month of September.

    Regular Admission:

  • $4.00 for adults
  • $3.00 for ages 6 - 12
  • Under six admitted free
  • Family Rate: 2 adults & immediate children or grandchildren $12.00
